Uncommon Creative Studio has created a new look for EA Sports FC, a new digital platform that replaces Fifa and, according to Uncommon, offers “a first look at the interactive future of football”. Buck has developed the new motion design.
EA Sports FC will become a platform for the creation and innovation of “new football experiences”, “connecting hundreds of millions of fans through console, mobile, online and esports products”.
Uncommon says that the triangular logo he created for the platform was “hidden for all to see” and was inspired by the “iconic player control display that appears above every athlete at every game”.
According to Uncommon, the triangle is a” dominant form in football culture ” and it was perfect for the project, as it could represent the sport in several dimensions.
“The triangle has been waiting patiently on the bench for over 30 years, and it’s time to finally release it,” Uncommon says. “It is a form that has changed the game many times from passport patterns to gambling. The triangle has revolutionized the game as we know it. And he will do it again – as an inspiration for the biggest football club in the world.”
The shape can also be found in EA Sports’ football experiments over the past few decades, “from the isometric angles of our very first 8-bit experiments and the triangular polygons that make up every pixel of our most modern games, to the iconic player control display that appears above every athlete in every game,” as Uncommon puts it.
“For the logo, we have revealed a basic symbol that is anchored in all aspects of the beautiful game. A symbol of power that is literally in the hands of those who control it,” adds Haider Muhdi, design director at Uncommon.
“A distinctive form that has been part of the gameplay (DNA) from the very beginning to the present day. Hidden in plain sight for almost 30 years, the inverted triangle has become our playmaker. Forge the EA Sports FC identity directly through them, and then build a productive design system on top of it.”
The triangle is also integrated into the isometric grid system, which informs the entire design system. The two custom branded fonts provide a distinctive lettering system and enable great pop versatility in various branded applications.
